( Birthday Girl ) The city of Leeds, west Yorkshire, England 1957. page 1
Melissa had just turned twelve-years of age, her parents had arranged a party to cellebrate her return. The Green family consisted of mom and dad. Melissa was their only child, living in a two-up-two-down miners cottage on a council estate. "It has been said of her as being a strange looking young girl by many in their neighbourhood - because of her long red hair - freckled face and chubiness." Yet she was quite a nice looking girl according to her uncle Tom - nicknamed "uncle moneybags" not without good reason either he was a very rich person with his good wife Gladice. Melissa was the kind of person that would often fly off the handle into fits of rage if she didn't get her own way even when relatives happened to pay her a visit - esspecially "that Gladice" as she so often refered to her rather disdainfully. Her front doorbell rang she answered it still dressed in her nightgown, opening the door widely to match her gaping yourn, there stood uncle Tom and his wife "that Gladice". You're still in your nightgown I see "pudding" said Gladice with a surprised look on her face and it's almost midday!" They both slivered into the house via "pudding". Nice sofer she commented as she brushed her hand across the top of it sweeping all the way along it - is it new? She asked..? Come sit on my knee sweetheart and see what uncle Tom has for you on your very special birthday? He pulled out from his breastcoat pocket a great wod of paper money. "This is for you Melissa love from Gladice and myself happy birthday." Yes many returns "pudding" said "that Gladice."
